Beef Chili Jalfrezi

About the Recipe

Jalfrezi is an Asian chili dish originating in Bengali. This recipe is suitable for a couple who are planning either an Indian, Bangladeshi or Bengali Themed wedding. This dish goes well with either white rice, or one of the Indian breads such as naan, chapati or parata.

Ingredients

500 grams pre roasted beef, lamb or veal

3 large ripe tomatoes

3 large onions

3 green chillies

1/4 teaspoon mustard seeds

1/4 teaspoon cumin seeds

1/4 teaspoon ground coriander

1/4 teaspoon ground tumeric

3 tablespoons sunflower or liquid vegetable oil

1 tablespoon soy sauce

Salt and black pepper to taste

Fresh Coriander Sprigs to garnish

Preparation

1. On a chopping board, cut the meat into thin stips;

2. Peel or skin the tomatoes.  Dessed the and chop up finely;

3. Peel the onions and cut them to a desired size (slice them or square them);

4.Open up the green chilies.  Remove the seeds and chop them up into strips;

5. In a cooking pot, fry the mustard and cumin seeds in the liquid vegetable oil for about 30 seconds.  Stir all the time.

6. Add the onions and strips of green chilies - fry them until they are slightly browned;

7. Add the meat, coriander, turmeric, salt, pepper, soy sauce and tomatoes.  Cook on medium heat for about 3 - 5 minutes.  Stire continously.

8.  Spoon the curry into a serving dish and garnish with fresh coriander leaves.

9.  Serve this dish with either rice or Indian bread (naan, chapati or parata).
