The Groom’s Cake
In earlier days in Western Countries, the grooms cake was referred to as the wedding cake. What is now known as the wedding cake was actually the bride’s cake.
Grooms cakes were then dark fruit cakes. They were reserved for guests to take home as a memento of the wedding.
Traditionally, slices of the groom’s cake were packed in small white boxes bearing the couple’s names and wedding date.
An old superstition stated that should a single woman sleep with the cake under her pillow on the night of the wedding, she would dream of the man she was to marry.
