The first people who you should announce your engagement to are both sets of parents, followed by your friends then you can shout it to the whole world. If your parents live in another town, arrange a time when you can call them on your phone and both of you can share with them the good news.

Engagement Presents

Though not an African tradition, in our modern times the groom will give his bride an engagement ring which may be a family heirloom or he may choose to buy one. He may also choose to give his fiancé another gift like a bracelet, necklace or watch to honour the engagement or later as a wedding gift.

The bride may also wish to give her fiancé a present, e.g. a watch, cuff links or a diamond studded tie pin.
