An Interview with Ocean Beach Resort & Spa, Malindi
Ocean Beach Resort and Spa is a Superior Deluxe 5 Star Resort, which was rated at number two by Trip Advisor for the Luxury Traveler’s Award for 2014. This high rating was awarded due to the resorts international 5 star qualities and standards maintained in room details, amenities, compliance with HACCP rules, cuisine preparation and presentation, food and wine pairing, its extensive international wine stock and authentic client reviews on Trip Advisor’s website.
We had the pleasure of interviewing Mr. Harvey Ndege the General Manager, and this is what he had to share with us:
DHW: When was the resort opened?
OBRS: On July 15th 2011
DHW: On how many acres is it?
OBRS: 36 acres overlooking the gardens on the seafront.
DHW: What is the ambience and architecture of the resort?
OBRS: Secluded, exclusive ambience with Victorian, early 20th Century style. Our main buildings and rooms are adorned with wooden roofs and elegant wooden floors.
DHW: Describe the type of rooms and cottages of the resort.
OBRS: The resort contains a total of 35 rooms.
4 are standard rooms, of 50 square meters
16 are superior rooms of 60 square meters
4 are junior suites covering 65 square meters
6 are suites of 80 square meters
4 are master suites of 100 square meters
We have 1 Imperial suite covering 150 square meters.
Couples who choose our resort and spa can look forward to honeymooning in rooms that contain handcrafted furniture and artifacts. The beds consist of custom made super king sized Simmons mattresses. Each room has a fully stocked mini-bar and couples who enjoy making their own tea and coffee will be delighted to find these facilities in their rooms.
After an enjoyable visit to the many sites in Malindi and Watamu, the newly engaged couple can relax to a movie on satellite television or DVD. They can also keep in touch with friends and relatives on free high speed Wi-Fi internet.
The bathrooms are spacious with walk-in showers. Moreover, the rooms contain Jacuzzi baths and private massage areas, providing the perfect personalized SPA experience.
DHW: What is special about your resort?
OBRS: Visiting couples will enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape from our ocean view rooms. They can look forward to romantic walks along our white idyllic sandy beaches. Visitors will have an unforgettable experience at our international fine dining and a la carte restaurants.
One of the activities they should set aside time for is a visit to our world class Morjana Spa. Here they will relax and get a chance to revitalize and rejuvenate their bodies and souls from our extensive aroma therapies. Each treatment uses natural products from Marrakech, Morocco and finished products from France. The therapists have been trained by Specialist Tutors from Esagono SRL and Morjana Cosmetiques (France & Italy).
DHW: Does the site have a garden for Destination Weddings?
OBRS: Yes it does. We have an exotic garden overlooking the sea. After the ceremony and reception outdoors, the guests can enjoy wining and dancing in our multifunctional lounge indoors. It accommodates from 70 to 80 guests.
When it comes to planning Destination Weddings, the resort engages the services of an independent wedding planner. The venue can be reserved by payment of a 50% deposit.
DHW: What cuisines does the chef offer?
OBRS: Our international chef offers a diversity of menu choices. Visitors can choose from ethnic African, Asian, International or a fusion of all these menus served at the Victoria Restaurant and at the Dunes Beach Bar & Restaurant.
At our Finch Hattons Bar, guests can choose from a wide selection of wines and spirits. Moreover, we serve international cocktails with sundowners. These can all be enjoyed while watching live entertainment provided by local dancers and bands.
