Wedding Fashion Trends for 2016 & 2017

Updated: May 29, 2021

Fashion designers from across the globe put on resplendent display their 2017 Bridal Collections during “The 26th Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week 2016” that was held at the Montjuie Exhibition Centre in Barcelona, Spain.

During the fashion shows which ran from 26th to 29th April, more than 500 wedding dresses, grooms suits and ceremonial outfits were paraded down the runway. Brides and grooms who are planning to walk down the aisle during the coming season have a large variety of attire to choose from.

Key features noted were purer lines, less sparkle and fewer embellishments compared to last years collections. Sensuality, however, is still a major element, reflected in dresses that are made of lighter, floating fabric. Lace still played a large part in many of the fashion designers collections.

The majority of the silhouettes presented were more pared down. Brides who like a less traditional, informal wedding have a choice of boho-chic dresses in a variety of colours to choose from. Women planning a garden or beach wedding need not trip over long trains and veils as short skirts and pant suits are going to be in fashion this season.

Are you looking for a completely new look for your wedding? Various fashion designers presented white and colored two-in-one gowns that featured mini-skirts at the front and maxi-skirts at the back.

Moreover, the 2016/2017 bride need not wear the same dress to the reception as she wore to the church. This season she can order two dresses; a formal traditional one for the religious church ceremony and another casual, informal, dress to party in during the reception or evening party in comfort and style. If however, you are a bride that prefers to wear only one outfit, you still get to change its look with different jackets, skirts and blouses.

Naeem Khan, an Indian-American fashion designer was among a group of first comers to the Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week. Caftans, capes, leggings and tunics were just some of the out-of-the-box elements he used in his 2017 collection. Other gowns featured pleated tulle, beaded fringes and colored ostrich feathers.

Ramon Sanjuryo, another new comer to the fashion show offers grooms and grooms men a selection of well tailored suits that combine well defined contours and tight pants. Traditional and modern jackets with matching ties pair perfectly for the modern wedding. Made from the finest quality fabric, the men’s suits come in black, blue, grey and brown.

Other new comers to the fashion show included Galia Lahav and Marylise Rembo.
