Bridal Fashion 2021

Updated: Mar 27, 2023

The break out of the Corona virus Pandemic brought with it changes to our lives we never imagined we would experience. In the global world of fashion, shows that were greatly anticipated like the Barcelona Bridal Fair had to be postponed or altogether cancelled.

Despite this, however, bridal gown designers the world over did not rest on their laurels. Used to a busy working schedule of producing collections at each season, they continued to work even under the lock downs.

Just like in past times when the world had experienced a traumatic event such as the 1st and 2nd World Wars, materials have become scarce and expensive. Frugality has become the new order of business. As a result, gowns in 2021 were simple, featuring shorter hemlines (tea length gowns) reminiscent of the 1950’s.

Designers such as Vivienne Westwood featured shorter hemlines and use of a lot of tulle:-

As we move into 2022, a large number of the world’s population have already received two or more shots of one of the CovidShield vaccinations. There is renewed hope for a new and better life after Covid.

As new designs continue to be conceived, cut and sewn into beautiful flowing gowns , we at Dorothy Humphrey’s Weddings will keep you updated on what is coming!
