Jilted Boyfriend Threatens to Disrupt Wedding

Dear Dorothy

My former boyfriend has started stalking me after he found out that I am engaged and about to marry. I am afraid that he will come to our ceremony and reception party just to spite me and to ruin our day.

When we were dating, he used to get very drunk on alcohol. He would start agruing loudly and often caused many fights at hotels, bars and at our friends parties. This is one of the reasons why I stopped going out with him and ended the relationship.

I have been looking forward to my wedding day all my life. I want this day to be the best day of my life. How do I ensure that he does not disrupt our ceremony and reception?

best regards

Dear Nancy

The feeling of being stalked and having an old boyfriend hanging around after the relationship is over is creepy and disturbing.

One option you have is to approach him. Set aside a time and a safe place where you can converse. Ask your best friend, a parent and your Parish Priest/Catechist to be there at the meeting. Also ask one of his best friends or one of his older brothers to be there Then, in a friendly, calm way thank him for all the good he ever did to you. You can even invite him to attend the wedding as a duly invited guest.

Once you leave peacibly, you can go ahead with the planning of your wedding.

If however, he does not accept that you have moved on with your life, hire a security guard/s to be stationed at the church and the reception. Let them have a picture of the old boyfriend so they will be able to identify him and restrain any undesirable behaviour from him.
