The Pear Shaped Kenyan Bride Chooses Her Wedding Dress

Updated: Nov 29, 2023

The dress or outfit a bride will wear on her wedding day has probably been on her mind ever since she was a young girl in primary school. It may have been a dress she saw in a film; a dress her auntie wore to her own wedding or even the dress her mother wore. The dress may be one of the most beautiful dresses ever crafted by a fashion designer.

However, every young or older woman planning a wedding needs to think about which gown would be most suitable in regards to the type of event she is holding, the season and time. Most importantly, she needs to consider her body type now that she is all grown up. Each body type has clothes that look magnificent on it. There are also those other clothes that should never be worn, let alone be seen anywhere close to her wardrobe.

Before rushing out with a cavalry of friends, with the help of her best friend, a bride needs to take a tap measure and know her overall height; her bust measurements; the width of her shoulders; the size of her hips and the size of her thighs. From these, she is able to tell what body type she has. If, after taking these measurements, she has narrow shoulders, a small bust, a small waist, large thighs and large hips, this is what we refer to as THE PEAR SHAPED BRIDE. The wedding gown styles that are suitable for this body type are the ball-gown and the A-Line silhouettes. Gown styles that a pear shaped bride should keep away from are mermaid silhouettes and any other gown that clings to the body from the top to the bottom.

The ball-gown style of wedding dress is fitted at the waist and has a full skirt. A princess ball-gown style has an even fuller skirt which will be at home in a formal event held indoors in a ballroom. An A-Line silhoutte also has a wide skirt. The difference is that it is less bulky compared to a ball-gown skirt width. These styles are suitable for a pear shaped bride as the full skirts help to disguise large hips, legs and the backside.

For the slimmer pear shaped bride who wants to show off her arms, cup sleeves or short sleeves would look chic and fashionable. For her neckline, she could opt for a romantic sweetheart shape which would allow her to accentuate her bust-line and add dressiness to the outfit. In addition, she can showoff a beautiful necklace and earring set. She could have her designer close the entire back area.

If you are a slightly fuller pear shaped bride, have the designer make you a dress with three quarter sleeves which look chic and graceful. Moreover, they will help to hide the few extra pounds on the arms. Choose a modest bateau neckline to finish off the gown. The back of the gown would look lovely with a zipper or a row of buttons that cover the entire back area upto the hemline. The row of buttons will draw oohs and ahhs from your family and friends.
